White Roses

Back in the old days, when the Houses of Lancaster and York were fighting it out over who would control England, there were basically only white roses and pink roses in Europe. That might partly explain the continued popularity of white roses: their longevity, not to mention their purity and sweet simplicity. During the Cherokee Trail of Tears in the 1830s, Cherokee men asked the Great One in heaven to do something to keep their women from becoming too weak from crying. Thereafter, white roses sprang up along the trail with every tear they shed, offering them strength in the hope of a new beginning in the new Cherokee Nation.
