Passover Roses

More than 3,200 years ago, Moses -- that great Liberator cherished by both Jews and Christians -- led the Hebrew slaves out of Israel and, eventually, to the Promised Land. Passover, a holiday with both historic and religious origins, celebrates this birth of freedom and self-determination for the Jewish people. While it may not be the most important holiday that modern people celebrate, it's arguably the oldest, and nearly every Jewish family in the world celebrates it annually.

Such a venerable tradition calls for venerable flowers, and what better than that King of Flowers, the rose? Roses may not be the most traditional of Passover flowers, but they do go well with the irises, lilies, and other flowers most often used to celebrate the holiday.  And why not establish a new Passover tradition of your own? As with most holiday celebrations, roses are ideal not just for decoration, but for gifts for your loved ones, too.

Let's start with the decorative elements. Passover roses are an elegant way to decorate your Seder tables while you sing the Haggadah and eat, whether you elect to use them as place settings or as centerpieces for the entire table. If you have visitors over for Passover, why not scatter a few vases of flowers around the house, to invigorate everyone with their beauty and sweet scent?

White roses in particular are good for Passover, either alone or in combination with the appropriate green fillers (baby's breath works very well), or with other types of white flowers, such as azaleas or lilies. Green roses also seem appropriate for Passover, since you’re celebrating the survival and flowering of the Jewish people since the days of Moses and Pharaoh. In rose symbolism, after all, green represents growth and fertility.

In addition to their decorative value, roses also make wonderful Passover gifts for the people you care about. A gift of roses tells the recipient that you think highly of them, and value their love or friendship. White roses are always appropriate, but don't hesitate to delve into the nuances of rose symbolism if you've got something special to say. A vivid pink symbolizes gratitude; what better color to send your Mother, or even the rabbi? Red roses, on the other hand, are a great way to let your spouse know that you still feel the passion that brought you together.

If you're worried about the price of your Passover roses, don't be; at Mr. Roses, you can get them in any color and quantity for less than the normal price you'd pay for lilies, azaleas, or just about any other flower anywhere else. Not only that, we can get them to you in just a few days from our extensive flower farm in Ecuador -- and they'll be as fresh and beautiful as if we just picked them. At these prices, you can afford to add a few bouquets of our lovely white calla lilies, too, not to mention loads of our mini-Gerberas -- so have at it!
